5 ways to prevent trash bags from slipping

In the daily routine of managing household waste, a common frustration that many people encounter is the slipping and sliding of trash bags inside the trash can. Readjusting and repositioning the bag each time can lead to spills and messes, which can further waste time in cleaning. But, several hacks can help prevent trash bags from slipping. One can employ any of these handy methods to simplify waste management and make the process hassle-free.

Use an extra large rubber band
One tried-and-tested method involves using large-sized rubber bands to keep trash bags securely in place. One can simply wrap a band around the rim of the trash can and ensure that it overlaps the edge of the bag. This effective solution prevents the bag from slipping and minimizes the chances of it falling into the can.

Use command hooks
Medium or large-sized command hooks, used to hang all kinds of items, can actually also help keep the trash bags in place. Simply paste them upside down on opposite sides of a trash can. Once the hooks are in place, loop the drawstrings of a trash bag around them to ensure a snug fit. Taking the bags off the command hook is also easy, and one can use the same hooks for as long as they last.

Use large binder clips
Another way to manage trash bags is to use binder clips, which are easily found in office supplies stores. Once the bag is placed inside the bin, one can place a few large binder clips in a couple of places on the rim of a trash can. Ensure that the blinder clip measures at least about two inches to give a sturdy grip to the bags.

Tie a knot
This is another effective hack to keep the trash bag securely anchored to the bin. To do this right, position the trash bag in the bin, gather the excess material at the opening and tie a tight knot on one side of the trash can to secure it.

Use magnets
Those who own a metal trash can can use common fridge magnets. Simply take a few magnets and fix them along the upper edge of the bin along with the bag. The magnetic force effectively grips the trash bag and prevents any slips. If the trash can isn’t made of metal, one can purchase adhesive dots and apply them to both sides of the non-metallic trash can for a secure hold.
